August 2010 Archives
On friday I saw my first bear cub scurring into the bush probably following his mother. And where did I see this little shiney black ball of fur. At the corner of John Street and Belrose Road in the city. Other than a few chipmonks and a pelelated wood pecker on Townline Road near Thunder bay Feeds that is it.
My lady friend Evelyn has been seeing pocupines on highway 11-17 near Sault Ste. Marie.
Finally being able to post my blog from anywhere my cell phone works. Got a high speed internet stick from TBAYTEL. $35 per month for 3GB. LOL. YES
Witnessed a near trdegy this morning with a baby fawn not sure which way to get out of an intersection at twin City Cross roads and Rosslyn Road. No momma around. poor thing was in told confussion trying to wonder which way to run. About 1 minute I sat across the tracks waiting. At least the other cars and trucks weren't in a hurry either. the fawn finally strolled down Rosslyn road toward the city.
Yesterday I saw a brush wolf near Blaikie Road on highway 588 for 1-2 seconds and then about a 1/2 Km before Highway 130 and barrie Drive I saw a fox with a weasle in its' mouth. other than that there is not much moving except chipmonks and blue jays. Most of my connections are seeing diddley. Lots of people hitting skunks. Time to take more of them to the city.
Most of my animal and bird spotters are seeing next to nothing. I did see a bald eagle eyeing the traffic and the water at highway 595 and 11-17 thursday morning about 10am.
Yesterday I noticed a very large pile of bear shit or dung. Away it was about 6-8 inches high by 4-6 inches wide about 20 feet from Dawson Road and Townline Road on the north side. Lots of dead skunks on the road. Try not to hit them as they smell really bad.
Lots of chipmonks on the road lately. watch out for them too. I had to stop as I crossed the Whitefish bridge at Hymers on saturday as 2 squirrels were chasing each other around the road.
My friend Jen tells me saw a mother and baby fox near the US/Canada border crossing begging for food as well as a large bear on highway 608 last wednesday.
Well my friend Gerry who drives a water truck finally sence his first bull moose this year on Saari road just north west of Murillo. He said the 2 year old bull was in no hurry to move off the road. He also saw a 2 deer in about the same location the following day which was yesterday.
I saw a large buck cross the Pole Line Road just past Mud Lake Road on wednseday morning and on thursday I saw a doe in down town Hymers.
little Falls on Pole Line Road is just a trickle right now . Whitefish River is just above the meandering creek stage and the Kaministiquia River at Stanley is getting new weeds where the river used to be. At the highway 130 crossing the river is down at least 2 feet. I always wonder if people who own property along the river have to pay extra taxes for more acreage along the river. I think i would be picking out rocks and adding a small berm for extra yard.
Finally got some rain along with a violant winds and severe lightning. Was up to 34C again today. Humidex is through the roof.
Saw a large buck on Old Silver Montain Road on thursday just past Leeper. I was working yesterday cutting firewood for my friend Jim up by Townline Road. All the cutting and noise never disturbed the bald eagle that was watching me. As soon as I went for a closer look he flew.
None of my friends are seeing anything. That is really odd around here.
The Whitefish River should be the Whitefish creek and Little falls on Pole Line Road is just a trickle. Sure nhope nobody starts a fire in the bush. Extremely dry.
