The early morning trip to Carman, Manitoba seemed like a good idea to me. Broke the rear view mirror off the window and misplaced my cell phone. I figured there wouln't be too much traffic on the highway. WRONG. A semi every kilometre it seemed.

saw a very large bison just past Oxdrift that seemed to be the watch dog in a truck compound. Then an elk resting in a fenced field at the sheep farm followed by a bald eagle flyinbg over the highway shortly after. 4 deer were in a clearing just past the turn off to Fort Frances. Then near Richer a bald eagle was feasting on a dead deer while about 50 ravens watched him eat.

Well today on my way into Thunder bay I saw a bald eagle near John and Mapleward. And then in the city near Queen Street and High Street I saw another bald eagle floating gently over the intercity area heading west. It is nice to see these majestic birds in the city proper.

Forgot mention that on Nov. 23 while heading north on Townline Road near Government road a medium sized timber wolf came out from the old golf course and ran up the road about 200 feet before bounding into the bush on the east side of the road.

As of next week I will be reporting sightings from Carman, Manitoba where I will be looking aftwer my 90 year old mother. have a merry xmas to all my friends. Hopefully my conections in NWOntario will continue to report what they see.

Yesterday I saw my first wealse scurrying across the snow. This little fellow was an off white with a black tip on his or her tail and about 15 inches long. This morning my friend Jim saw a small white rabbit hoping through the horsepen past Bill the clydesdale. He made it safely to the bush.

Another 2 inches of heavy wet snow coming down right now.Ugly driving again.

Went for a drive about yesterday. The kaministiquia River at Stanley is starting to freeze over the new sand bars, but still 2-3 feet down from last year. Saw cedar wax wings, a blue jay and a bald eagle sitting in a tree in the Mapleward landfill site as I drove by. lots of seagulls and a few turkey vulchers floating above.

Another 4-6 cms of snow last night. more hary driving again. Now it is supposed to rain this afternoon. Think Mother Nature is losing it again.

Snowing again. If it would just snow but no on the roads I could care less how much we get. Still get nervous driving the roads when it snows and they allow trtactor trailers on the roadway as well. It is hard enough driving with no one infront of me, but then a semi decides he should use me as a drafting partner.

Anyway was out fixing fence yesterday in the snow. Lots of rabbit tracks out there, so that means that the lynx will be around as well. They are quick, silent but can be seen from a distance. Sometimes you get lucky and see mom and dad and 2 babies together. Not much else moving except did see wolf shit 3 days ago.

My   NO SNOW   signs didn't help. Mother nature dumped about 8 inches of heavy wet snow on us. Not fare at all. makes it tough slugging for the small creatures. hard shovelling as well so be careful. back to a winter wonderland with lots of good photography shots to come. Will do some HD video later when my body gets used too the winter weather.

Back to slip sliding in the van again. Just be careful poeple.

I went for a drive in the country today.  The Kaministiquia River on highway 130 is way down showing gravel bars and large rocks that would normally be under water. The Whitefish River is starting to look like a creek again. Not much moving except orange clad hunters on most roads loking for deer and moose.

It ahs been a slow week for seeing birds and animals until this morning. I did a favour for a friend and took a load of gatbage to the land fill site off Mapleward Road between Oliver and John. Low and behold I counted over 40 bald eagles in less than a minute. If you want to observe these beautiful birds then you got to the weigh startion and knock on the door so they know you are going to look at the bald eagles. I talked with a worker there and he told me that last week in a matter of minutes they counted 160 plus bald eagles.

Also have been seeing a small fawn visiting my friends horses every morning. Must be an orphan. Also been seeing crossing higway `102 near Leppanens' Store almost daily.
