February 2011 Archives
Talked to my friend adrian. He tells me he was having luch on Mission island and spotted a brush wolf sleeping on the ice about 200 metres from shore.
Coming down John Street near lawrence ave I noticed 4 deer grazing beside the road. Maybe something is moving again. Would be nice to see animals out and about again.
My friend Evelyn has been seeing wolf and deer tracks near Goulais bay just north of Sault Ste. Marie.
For the next 3-4 weeks I will be in the Beardmore area working and will report from there.
Was talking to a lady friend of mine this morning. In the past 3 weeks she has seen 3 lynx in the Townline Road area between Government Road and Dawson Road. She has also seen a deer and a a fox in her yard plus a partridge. Her daughter witnessed 2 lynx crossing the dawson Road at Mapleward about 10pm last week.
Maybe the animals are starting to move again. Let's hope so.
Seen my first fly for this year. They come out of the wood work at 50F or +10C. Also saw a doe on Mapleward Road. Maybe they are moving around again. Not much moving at all. Maybe winter is over.
Be careful on the back roads if it rains tomorrow as it will be a skating rink.
Bitter cold must be keeping all the animals and birds from being spotted. Since january 20th all I have seen are a few ravens, 1 blue jay, a deer on Government Road, and a partidge.
I went for a drive yesterday and saw fairly fresh moose tracks just pass the 80km sign heading to Nolalu and on the way back I saw fresh moose tracks near Silver Creek on 588.
My contacts are seeing a deer every week or two.
