The paintings of Betty Sylvester reveal an intimate and acute awareness of nature and its many facets.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, she married in 1963, moving to the Thunder Bay area where she has resided ever since. She has three sons and granchildren.
It has only been in her later years, without any formal training that she took up oil painting.
One of her earlier paintings, "Reflections" was chosen in a juried art show to hang in the Thunder Bay Art Gallery. She now has paintings in Toronto, Vancouver, Germany as well as the Thunder Bay area.
Her bird series, "As free as a bird" is dedicated to her late husband, Dennis Sylvester, who loved to fly. Dennis was always very supportive of her art work.
